Class of 2027 Math Placement Test

La Salle High School's Mathematics Department will be administering a math placement test for all incoming freshmen on Saturday, February 18, from 9:00-10:00am.  This math placement test is mandatory for all incoming freshmen in the class of 2027.  The purpose of the placement test is to gather additional information about each student to determine their readiness and placement for high school math classes.  The information gathered on this assessment, along with the students' HSPT score and teacher recommendations, will help determine the best-fit math class for the student entering La Salle. Your results on this math placement test will not affect your acceptance or enrollment in any way.
Each student will be permitted to use a calculator for the test.  The test is arranged in three categories: fundamental skills, pre-algebra skills, and Algebra 1 skills.  Do your best on the topics you are familiar with.  There will be topics you are not familiar with if you are not currently taking Algebra 1.  You will have 1 hour to complete the assessment.  The math placement test will cover the following topics:
  • Integer and fraction operations
  • Simplifying square roots
  • Evaluating expressions
  • Distributive property, order of operations, and combining like-terms
  • Solving equations and inequalities
  • Slope, graphing lines, and writing equations of lines
  • Systems of equations
  • Adding, subtracting, and multiplying polynomials

  • Time - the evening's presentation will begin at 7:00pm.  La Salle's Spirit Shop will be open from 5:30pm-9:00pm that evening if families would like to shop for uniforms or spiritwear before or after Commitment Night.  Please make sure you are in the gym before 7:00pm.
  • Location - Commitment Night will take place in La Salle's Gym.  Families can park in our main student parking lot located in the back of the main building and enter the gym through our courtyard entrance.  The Spirit Shop is also located directly through the courtyard entrance.
  • Dress - the evening's attire is business casual.  Specifically for your son's, we would like them to wear La Salle gear if possible (this does not need to be school uniform attire).  They are welcome to wear a La Salle t-shirt, 1/4-zip, hoodie, etc...If they do not have any La Salle gear yet, that is ok, please have them wear something red or white.  We will be taking a large group photo of the class of 2027 and want them to look Lasallian.   They can wear khaki pants, jeans, or black pants (preferably no sweatpants).  Gym shoes, sneakers, loafers, Hey Dudes, Sperrys, etc. are perfectly acceptable.
  • What to expect - the evening will include presentations from La Salle leadership team, a junior class representative, and our Alumni Office.  We will also be introducing each member of the class of 2027.  The formal part of the evening will conclude at approx. 7:45pm with a reception and photo opportunity to follow.
