La Salle High School senior Evan Paul is a National Merit Scholar. He is one of seventeen students in the Greater Cincinnati area to receive a National Merit Corporate Sponsored Scholarship.
Paul is one of 7,500 National Merit Scholars worth a total of about $31 million that will be offered this year. He will be attending the University of Cincinnati majoring in Business Economics and Mathematics. He has been accepted into the prestigious Lindner Honors- PLUS program.
Paul is a member of the Lasallian Scholars Institute (LSI), a program for high-achieving students that educates students about the fields of engineering, health care, information technology, and global business through engaging them with business professionals in the Cincinnati area. The students have taken part in more than 100 experience-based learning opportunities with partnering companies and more than 250 hours of professional development training in areas such as public speaking, project management, group collaboration and strategic planning.
Paul is also a Senior Leader responsible for planning and running school events as well as increasing student involvement and morale. Paul participated in the Lancer Soccer program for four years, is a member of the National Honor Society, the Key Club Co-President, and a LSI Senior Chair. Evan has also volunteered as a Santa Maria Child Mentor, St. Ignatius PSR Teacher's Aid, La Salle Auction Volunteer, and the La Salle Canned Food Drive earning over 250 service hours.
Paul is the son of Ted and Sue Paul of Green Township. They are members of St. Ignatius Parish.
To be considered for a Merit Scholarship, semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist level. About 90 percent of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and about half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.
