La Salle's Athletic Department announced today that six Lancer student athletes signed National Letters of Intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at the next level.

The signing class has three wrestlers and three baseball players. Wrestling is highlighted by 2018 Wrestling State Champion Lucas Byrd and also includes Trey Sizemore and Michael Baker. Baseball includes Vinny Abbatiello, Jake Lawson and Josh Wessler.

Lucas Byrd's Wrestling athletic career at La Salle has been storied with accomplishments across the United States and internationally. Lucas' accomplishments include three-time State Tournament Placer, 2017 Cadet World Team Member, and 2015 Double Fargo National All-American in Freestyle and Greco He is currently ranked 4th in the country at 120 lb weight class. He has signed with the University of Maryland where he plans to major in Criminal Justice. Lucas is the son of Jeff and Myra Byrd and brother of Max Byrd '12. They reside in Colerain Township.

Trey Sizemore signed with Brown University where he plans to major in Engineering. Trey is ranked 19th nationally for Wrestling in the 182 lb weight class. He is a two-time State Tournament Qualifier and Placed in 2018. In addition to his athletic accolades, Trey is a member of the prestigious Lasallian Scholars Institute, a selective academic program at La Salle, has earned Honors almost every quarter at La Salle and is a member of the National Honors Society. Trey previously attended St. John the Baptist Elementary School in Harrison, OH. Trey is the son of Ron and Mary Sizemore and they reside in Cleves.

Michael Baker signed with Columbia University where he plans to major in Pre-Medicine. As a wrestler, Michael has earned three Second Team GCL, three-time State Tournament Qualifier and placed 6th in the State Wrestling Tournament in 2018 . Michael has earned First Honors every quarter at La Salle and is a member of the Lasallian Scholars Institute and National Honor Society. Michael is also involved with a variety of service programs at La Salle and in Dayton including La Salle Canned Food Drive and OCL Soccer League earning over 100 service hours. Michael is the son of Rex and Lisa Baker and they reside in Beavercreek, OH.

Vinny Abbatiello signed with Belmont University for Baseball and has not declared a major. Vinney excels in the classroom earning Honors in most quarters at La Salle. Vinny is also an active volunteer for many programs including La Salle's Canned Food Drive, sports camps, Matthew 25 Ministries, and Key Club. Vinny's parents are Pat '83 and Tina and they live in Colerain Township. Vinny has two brothers both of whom are La Salle alum (Bailey '13 and Zach '10) as well as various uncles and cousins. The Abbatiello's are members of St. James Parish.

Jake Lawson signed with Purdue University- Fort Wayne for Baseball and has declared a major in Business. Jake earned Second Team All GCL his junior year. He also excels academically earning First Honors almost every quarter at La Salle. He has earned over 85 service hours through volunteering for the La Salle Canned Food Drive, La Salle Craft Fair, and Matthew 25 Ministries. Jake's parents are Scott '84 and Angela Lawson and they reside in Colerain Township. They are members of St. James Parish

Josh Wessler signed with Urbana University for Baseball and has declared a major in Exercise Science. Jake earned GCL South Honorable Mention as a junior. He also excels academically and has earned First Honors each semester at La Salle. In addition he has earned over 150 service hours through volunteering with the La Salle Canned Food Drive; LYSIT- Hindman, KY; Key Club and summer camps. Josh's parents are Rich '88 and Becky Wessler and they reside in Colerain Township. He has a brother Jake who graduated from La Salle in 2016. The family are members of St. John the Baptist Parish in Dry Ridge.
