The La Salle Athletic Department announced today that Derrick Jackson '96 has been named the next Varsity Lancer Cross Country Coach

Jackson has over 14 years of cross country coaching experience at both the high school and collegiate levels; seven of those years at Thomas More College. While a coach at Thomas More, Jackson grew the program from six participants to 27 while developing the program into a nationally recognized program.

"We're excited and fortunate to have Derrick come back home to lead the Cross Country program," says Athletic Director Keith Pantling. "With his success as a student-athlete, as an assistant coach, and most recently as the head coach of Thomas More College, he's a terrific fit to continue the tradition of excellence this program has had for decades under coach Russo."

In addition to his coaching accomplishments, he participated in cross country and track and field during his collegiate career earning All Ohio Athletic Conference Team twelve times. He has also ran in a variety of 5k, 10k, half marathons and marathons including the Boston Marathon and Columbus Children's Hospital Marathon.

Jackson is an Army veteran including two overseas tours. While overseas, he won the Iraq Freedom 10k in 2005. He has earned many military awards including Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Combat Action Badge.
