Athletic Training

 

 

La Salle Athletic Training program is a NATA Safe Sport School.  According to the NATA website, The Safe Sports School Award recognizes secondary schools around the country that take the crucial steps to keep their athletes free from injuries.  As a First Award recipient, our Athletic Training staff are required to adhere to the following:

  • Create a positive athletic health care administrative system
  • Provide or coordinate per-participation physical examinations
  • Promote safe and appropriate practice and competition facilities
  • Plan for selection, fit function and proper maintenance of athletic equipment
  • Provide a permanent, appropriately equipped area to evaluate and treat injured athletes
  • Develop injury and illness prevention strategies, including protocols for environmental conditions
  • Provide or facilitate injury intervention
  • Create and rehearse venue-specific Emergency Action Plan
  • Provide or facilitate psycho-social consultation and nutritional counseling/education
  • Be sure athletes and parents are educated of the potential benefits and risks in sports as well as their responsibilities
Head Athletic Trainer

Dan Forcum, AT, ATC

Dan has been the Head Athletic Trainer at La Salle HS since the start of the 2005 school year. Dan graduated from the College of Mount Saint Joseph here in Cincinnati with a B.S in Athletic Training in 2003. Dan is employed by Beacon Orthopedics since the spring of 2007 and he splits his time between the Beacon West Physical Therapy office and La Salle. Dan enjoys the outdoors, playing drums with his rock band, volleyball, the Reds and Bengal’s and is a sports fan in general. Dan and his wife Nicole, a teacher at Mercy McAuley HS, live in Westwood with their 2 children Logan and Holli.

Athletic Trainer

Alex Popken, AT, ATC, CSCS

Alex currently works as a Certified Athletic Trainer at La Salle High School and Beacon West Physical Therapy Clinic. She received her BS in Athletic Training from The Ohio State University in 2017. She is from Cincinnati (White Oak) and attended Mount Notre Dame High School. In her free time she enjoys working out, running Spartan Races, and hanging out with family and friends.
