CINCINNATI, OHIO, December 20, 2017 – La Salle High celebrated the athletic achievements of Josh Whyle, Griffin Merritt, and Sam Hildebrand today during the Early Signing Period for National Letters of Intent.

This group is highlighted by football standout Josh Whyle who was recruited by many top programs around the country. Josh's length and athletic ability at wide receiver quickly helped him rise to the top of the recruiting classes nationwide. Josh signed a letter of intent to continue his football career at the University of Cincinnati. Josh received many awards during his football career at La Salle including 1st Tem All GCL (2016 & 17), Second Team All Tri-State (2016); Honorably Mention All State (2016); 1st Team All State (2017); and 1st Team All Tri State (2017). In addition to football, Josh has been very active in other extra-curricular activities including basketball, Key Club, Frisbee Club, Lasallian Youth Service Immersion Trip, Canned Food Drive, and Kairos Leader. Academically Josh has earned First and Second Honors many quarters during his four years and will graduate in the top half of his class. He plans to major in Physical Therapy at UC. Josh is the son of Tim and Chris Whyle who reside in Colerain Township. Josh has a brother, Jake, who graduated from La Salle in 2014 and currently attends UC. Josh attended Our Lady of Grace Elementary and is a member of St. Therese Little Flower Parish.

The University of Cincinnati receives a second commitment with a letter of intent from baseball infielder Griffin Merritt. Griffin has been a top performer on and off the field. On the field, he has been recognized is multiple awards and recognitions including Penn Station Athlete of the Month (2017), LaRosa's MVP (2017), 1st Team GCL Football (2016), 2nd Team GCL Baseball (2016 & 17), PBR Ohio Future Games Selection for Baseball, and Perfect Game Pre-Season All American Honorable mention. Off the field Griffin is a member of the National Honor Society and is in the highly competitive Lasallian Scholars Institute with a 4.4 weighted GPA. Griffin has earned First Honors every quarter at La Salle and is currently ranked 5th in the senior class. Griffin is one of 50 students accepted into the Medical Sciences Program at UC. Griffin's parents are Patrick and Jennifer Merritt and live in Colerain Township. Griffin has a brother Nathan who is a freshman at La Salle. Griffin attended St. James Elementary and is currently a member of St. James Parish.

Sam Hildebrand has signed a letter of intent to continue his football career as a defensive back with Bucknell University. Sam has received multiple awards this year including 1st Team GCL, 1st Team District, and 2nd Team All-State. In addition to football, Sam has been involved in basketball and the Canned Food Drive. Academically Sam has earned First Honors many quarters at La Salle earning a 3.6 GPA. Sam plans to major in Economics at Bucknell. Sam's parents are Kevin and Kate Hildebrand who live in Colerain Township. Sam has a brother, Cole, who is a sophomore at La Salle and a sister Grace. Sam attended St. James Elementary and is a member of St. James Parish.
